Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii

Bonjour, mes amis! Let me tell you about something amazing. Something that involves… yakuza, pirates, and sunshine. Intrigued? Bien sûr!

I’m talking about Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Think of it as Yakuza 8, but with a tropical twist. Gone are the familiar streets of Kamurocho (well, not entirely gone, but more on that later). This time, we’re off to Hawaii!

A Vacation Gone Sideways

Our hero, Ichiban Kasuga, is back. And life is, shall we say, complicated. You know how it is. One minute you’re chilling on a beach, the next you’re embroiled in a conspiracy. But hey, that’s Ichiban for you! Always attracting trouble, like a magnet. And this time, it's personal. He's searching for his long-lost mother! A heart-wrenching mission if I ever heard one.

Hawaii is gorgeous, isn’t it? Picture turquoise waters, sandy beaches… and yakuza shenanigans. The cultural clash is hilarious and intriguing. The developers really leaned into the local flavour, and it shows. You'll see nods to Hawaiian culture everywhere. Think Luaus meet late night brawls! The series' signature humor is intact, thankfully. It's always appreciated!

And remember Kiryu Kazuma? The Dragon of Dojima? He's back too! Yes, that Kiryu. He’s facing his own demons, battling serious health issues. Seeing these two legendary figures together is...well, it's special. They both have their own baggage. Seeing them navigate this new adventure side by side? Magnificent!

Pirates and Turn-Based Mayhem

Now, about those pirates... Well, maybe not eye-patch-and-parrot pirates. But organized crime with a Hawaiian flair. Think more "gangsters doing gangster things on yachts," and less "Arrr, matey!"

The combat is still turn-based, which some people adore, some find less appealing. But it's been refined. It's more strategic and dynamic. You can use the environment to your advantage! Imagine whacking a goon with a beach umbrella! Or kicking sand in their eyes. The sheer goofiness and creativity is astounding.

The job system is back too! You can change your characters' classes to learn new skills. I spent hours experimenting. Honestly? My life may have gone down this exact path if I'd had these opportunities. Okay, maybe not, but it's definitely fun to play with different builds and strategies.

More Than Just A Game

Like A Dragon has always been about more than just beating people up. It's about found family, loyalty, and overcoming adversity. These themes are powerfully present in Infinite Wealth. The characters are so well-developed. You actually care about them. You laugh with them, you cry with them, you cheer them on.

And yes, there are the classic mini-games. Karaoke, gambling, and even a Pokémon-esque bug-collecting adventure! Because what's a Yakuza game without a little bit of crazy?

The story is long and winding. Prepare to invest a lot of time! But it's a journey worth taking. And if you're worried it's all seriousness, don't be. There are plenty of hilarious moments to balance out the drama.

So, is it worth it? Absolutely! Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a wild, wonderful, and deeply emotional ride. It’s a game that stays with you long after the credits roll. And who knows? Maybe it'll even inspire you to book that Hawaiian vacation you've always dreamed of. Just… maybe leave the yakuza stuff to Ichiban and Kiryu.
